Award in Marketing Practice (5N1400)

QQI Minor Award Level 5 - Further Education & Training 

The course provides learners with the practical and theoretical skills needed to build their industry knowledge and pursue a marketing related career. It also provides an understanding of the principles and practices of marketing, the functions of a marketing department and the role of marketing in everyday life.


Course Duration

  • 10 weeks
  • One evening per week & 2 Saturdays

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements however learners should preferably have a good working knowledge of English, have a leaving certificate or equivalent qualification and / or relevant life and work experiences.

Programme Content

    ·        Understand the principles and practices of marketing

    ·        Understand the role marketing plays in today’s workplaces and society in general

    ·        Be familiar with specific marketing terms, practices, concepts and techniques

    ·        Be familiar with and understand the elements of the marketing mix

    ·        Be able to work effectively in a marketing role

    ·        Understand the functions of a marketing department

    ·        Know how to develop a marketing plan for a product or service

    ·        Understand the role of market research and research methods

    ·        Understand the difference between marketing and other promotional channels



All assessments are carried out in accordance with QQI regulations.

      Examination         40%


A QQI Certificate of Achievement will be issued following the validation of results by QQI and the appropriate credit under the National Framework of Qualifications will then be obtained by the candidate. 

National Framework of Qualifications: 5N1400, Level 5 component award (15 credits).
