FETAC Health & Safety Representative

For any person who is responsible for health and safety in their workplace or who requires a recognised qualification in Occupational Health and Safety. The course is designed to provide learners with the skills and knowledge to promote and maintain safety and health in their place of work. 

The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 states that employees can select one of their colleagues to act as a Safety Representative. It is essential therefore that anyone appointed as the Safety Representative has the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the function effectively.

 

 

Course Duration

  • Three days
  • 9:30 - 5pm

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements however learners should preferably have a good working knowledge of English, have a leaving certificate or equivalent qualification and / or relevant life and work experiences.

Learning Outcomes

 At the end of the course each participant should:

 

  • Understand the concepts of the promotion of safety, health and welfare in the workplace 
  • Be familiar with the core health and safety legislation 
  • Describe the role, the rights and the function of the safety Representative 
  • Understand the importance of the safety statement, hazard identification and risk assessment 
  • Explain the fire hazards, their sources and the requirement for the fire prevention controls 
  • Understand the communication process and effective participation at meetings 
  • Outline the factors of accident causation, describe prevention strategies and policies

All assessments are carried out in accordance with FETAC regulations.

Award

A FETAC Certificate of Achievement will be issued following the validation of results by FETAC and the appropriate credit under the National Framework of Qualifications will then be obtained by the candidate. 

National Framework of Qualifications: Course is a level 5 component award which qualifies as 1 credit towards FETAC level 5 Certificates and is a recognised module within the National Framework of Qualifications.

As the subject content equates to the standard 3 day Safety Representative Programme each participant will also receive a Safety Representative Course Certificate from Western Management Centre on successful completion of the course.
