Safety Audit & Safety Statement

The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 2005 makes provision for securing the safety, health and welfare of all persons at work. Its overall aim is to prevent ill health and accidents in all workplaces.


The law sets out:

  • The full scope of workplace safety
  • The organisation and systems necessary to achieve it
  • The responsibilities and roles of employers, the self-employed and employees
  • The enforcement procedure where the laws are not followed

Employers are required to audit their workplace and document a Safety Statement  which identifies the hazards and risks and the measures taken to protect their employees.


Scope of Work:

Carry out an in-depth workplace assessment / safety audit of the organisation in accordance with current legislation.


Present any recommendations for implementation and draw up a Safety Statement.

Nature of the Safety Audit:

The audit involves the examination of all facilities, stores and office areas to:

  • Identify hazardous areas and practices
  • Evaluate the risks associated with each hazard
  • Identify control measures
  • Identify the requirement for protective clothing and/or equipment
  • Review the procedures for reporting accidents

Identify and records the control measures required, to complement the Safety Statement

Document the Safety Statement or update the existing Statement

Requirements:

The Safety Audit requires close liaison with the Safety Officer and/or the Manager plus the co-operation of key personnel in each area.


Where relevant the company needs to provide safety data sheets for any potentially hazardous products they use, as these will form an integral part of the Safety Statement. 

Safety Statement:

The Safety Statement will be presented to the company in hard and soft copy format so that it can be updated as required.

Duration:

The duration is determined by the nature, size and complexity of the organization.


Safety Audit / Workplace assessment:   1 to 2 days (on-site)

Safety Statement Preparation:   1 to 3 days (off-site)

Total number of days:    2 to 4 days approx.
